The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to two candidates—Dr. D.R.L. Nonglait from the Department of Khasi and Prof. Batskhem Myrboh from the Department of Political Science—allowing them to contest the upcoming Member of Parliament (MP) by-election in the Shillong constituency.
Dr. Nonglait is the candidate for the National People’s Party (NPP), and Prof. Myrboh is the candidate for the Voice of the People Party (VPP). Following the official communication issued by the Joint Registrar of NEHU granting them permission to contest, both candidates can now campaign freely without any institutional impediments from the university.
It may be recalled that Prof. Myrboh had recently approached the High Court over an alleged delay in the issuance of his NOC.
However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet declared the official dates for the by-election.
