In a significant development regarding traditional governance, the Meghalaya High Court has officially reinstated Ainam Manik Syiem as the Syiem (Chief) of Hima Mylliem. The court’s definitive ruling effectively quashes his previous suspension, which was initiated by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The KHADC had earlier suspended Ainam Manik Syiem from his leadership role, citing his alleged failure to release or deposit mandatory funds to the district council. Following this suspension, the council temporarily handed over the administrative responsibilities to Aiban Fredrick Syiem, appointing him as the Acting Syiem.
However, the High Court’s latest legal intervention has set aside both the initial suspension order and the subsequent appointment of the interim chief. With this ruling, Ainam Manik Syiem’s authority is fully restored, clearing the path for him to immediately resume his traditional duties and leadership over Hima Mylliem.
