Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has firmly rejected social media rumors claiming that 22 National People’s Party (NPP) lawmakers had traveled to New Delhi to meet with the BJP’s central leadership. Speaking at an election rally in Wahlyngkhat, Tynsong labeled the reports as “fake news” and clarified the nature of his recent visit to the national capital.
Tynsong explained that his trip to New Delhi, alongside fellow Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on September 23, was strictly for official government work. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma joined them a day later. During their stay, the delegation met with senior officials. Tynsong strongly denied any political motives or discussions within the NPP regarding the visit, and refuted claims that NPP lawmakers were involved in such an effort.
The rumor mill had also sparked speculation that Tynsong was positioning himself for the chief minister’s post. Addressing these rumors, he noted the widespread anxiety they caused. “News of all kinds was spread to the extent that everyone across the state lost their sleep,” Tynsong told the rally attendees. “The calls that I received were, why is this happening, and this is the question of the public,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister was in Wahlyngkhat to campaign for Dr. DRL Nonglait, the NPP’s candidate for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. Tynsong praised Dr. Nonglait, describing him as a wise, humble, and respectable individual, and calling him “an ideal candidate for the Shillong seat”.
Addressing the large gathering, Tynsong emphasized the difficulty of finding such a candidate and urged the public to fully support Dr. Nonglait to ensure his victory in the forthcoming by-election
