Newly inducted BJP MLA Lahkmen Rymbui stated today that the eight former United Democratic Party (UDP) legislators who recently switched sides did not seek any ministerial positions from Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Speaking to the media after the eight MLAs formally joined the BJP at the party’s office in Shillong, Rymbui emphasized that their decision was entirely driven by their commitment to the people and the overall development of Meghalaya.
The clarification comes shortly after the group officially submitted a letter to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, formally communicating their decision to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party. This political development has significantly boosted the BJP’s strength in the 60-member House, raising its tally from two to ten MLAs.
“We are not here to demand portfolios or ministerial berths in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government,” Rymbui told reporters. “Our move is rooted in a collective desire to serve the state more effectively and ensure that Meghalaya’s core issues receive the central attention they deserve.”
