Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the Rs. 121-crore Phase II of the Shillong Technology Park on Thursday, marking the state’s largest single expansion of dedicated IT space.
Located in New Shillong Township, the 1.8 lakh square-foot facility is already nearly fully booked. The park has attracted a mix of global and local companies, including US-based multinational Alorica, local firms StaffFlex LLP and Shamrock AI, and a new Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence.
Moving beyond conventional IT, Sangma emphasized that the facility should function as a dynamic hub for entrepreneurship and emerging technologies. He noted that Meghalaya’s economy has doubled since 2018, largely due to policy stability and infrastructure upgrades.
To sustain this momentum, the Chief Minister highlighted the critical need for youth skill development. By partnering with educational institutions and investing in human resources, the government aims to position Shillong as a premier technology and innovation capital for both Northeast India and Southeast Asia.
